Designing an Integrated Urban Mobility Strategy for Thailand’s Smart City Vision
Our client, a forward-thinking city administration in Thailand, embarked on a Smart City initiative aimed at enhancing urban mobility. However, they faced the challenge of developing a comprehensive and efficient urban mobility strategy tailored to the needs of rapidly growing urban centers and high volumes of daily commuters.
Eurogroup Consulting was engaged to design an urban mobility strategy that aligned seamlessly with the Smart City vision, integrating cutting-edge technologies and sustainable transportation solutions suitable for Thailand’s urban context.
We initiated the project by conducting a detailed assessment of the city’s current mobility infrastructure and challenges. We also analyzed commuting patterns and preferences across diverse urban populations. Based on our findings, we developed a multi-faceted urban mobility strategy that encompassed the following key elements:
- Sustainable Transport Modes: We recommended the integration of eco-friendly transport modes such as electric buses, bike-sharing systems, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and expanded park-and-ride services to reduce congestion and lower carbon emissions.
- Digital Transportation Platforms: Leveraging advanced technologies, we proposed the implementation of digital platforms for real-time traffic monitoring, smart parking solutions, and multimodal integration with BTS, MRT, and regional transport services.
- Public Engagement: To ensure widespread acceptance and participation, we devised a public awareness campaign to educate citizens about the benefits of the new mobility solutions and encourage their adoption.
- Infrastructure Enhancement: Our strategy included upgrading road networks, traffic signals, and public transportation hubs, while preparing cities to integrate electric vehicle charging stations and future-ready infrastructure.
Our recommendations centered on a phased implementation approach, emphasizing the importance of continuous monitoring and adaptation to evolving urban mobility needs. We also advised the establishment of a dedicated Smart Mobility Authority to oversee the strategy’s execution and coordinate with national smart city programs.
The implementation of our urban mobility strategy resulted in a transformed urban landscape. The city experienced reduced traffic congestion, improved air quality, increased use of sustainable transportation modes, and enhanced overall urban living. Additionally, the city’s reputation as a Smart City hub was strengthened, attracting investment and talent while supporting Thailand’s long-term vision for innovation and sustainable mobility.
